2024 - Let’s Get Ready! Part I.
This is the perfect time of year to be selfish.
Yes, I said it, be Selfish!
I know it’s the holiday season and it’s full of giving. But I learned a long time ago, this is the best time to focus on yourself. As you approach the end of 2023 and set your sights on a stronger start in 2024, it's essential to decode, devise, and deploy (3D Strategy) a strategy for 2024.
I will be breaking down the 3D strategy in another newsletter, so stay tuned for that.
Let’s start this series off with some foundational thoughts and some things you need to “hold on to” as you move into 2024.
Foundational Thoughts
Action Beats Intention All Day Long™️
Resolutions don't always work because they often encourage a goal-oriented approach rather than a process-oriented one. I’m not anti-goal, I’m pro-process. 👊🏾
It's not that having goals is wrong, but it's crucial to understand the "why" behind those goals.
Ask yourself.
❓Are you genuinely ready for change?
❓What (realistically) needs to change, can you define it?
❓Where are you in your journey, and why do you want to change?
A process-oriented approach focuses on developing healthy habits that can lead you to your goals and even surpass them. So, before setting BHAGs - Big Hairy Audacious Goals and resolutions, consider the processes that can get you there.

Identify What to Stop, Continue, and Start
🛑 Before you read any further, these steps require you to be completely honest with yourself, or nothing works! 🛑
To make meaningful changes, identify what you need to stop doing.
📌 How are you getting in your way?
📌 What actions are hindering your progress or keeping you stuck?
On the flip side, recognize what you need to continue doing. What's working well for you right now? Keep those practices in place.
Lastly, identify what you need to start doing. Sometimes, it's not about going big; less can be more effective. Focus on smaller, high-quality actions that can have a significant impact on your goals.
What to Hold On To in 2023?
YOUR DEVELOPMENT DISCONTENT 😡
Keep that healthy dissatisfaction with your current developmental journey. It has been well documented that corporate training and internal developmental programs are limiting.
Use your discontent as a catalyst for action toward personal innovation and exploration.

Action Step
📌 Seek intentionally challenging assignments that push your boundaries. Proactively look for projects or tasks that make you question:
"What if I fail?"
“What will I learn from this experience?”
Whenever possible, I volunteered my markets for new corporate projects or initiatives. These opportunities provided me and my team with new relationships and leadership challenges we could not receive during our normal course of business operations.
Most importantly, a successful project can set you, your markets, and your leaders apart, allowing you to stand out in a crowded company.
📌 Invest in yourself. I will be preaching this one from the mountaintop all year long. In the United States companies spend US $166 billion each year on leadership development, a figure that more than doubles globally. Read the article here 👉🏾 Invest in yourself
The real question is - Do you feel the impact of that investment on your personal growth? Probably not, the majority of “corporate training and development” is just that - focused on corporate values and their agenda.
NOT YOUR LEADERSHIP AGENDA!
Quick solution:
Get a coach or join a community that will support your specific needs, especially when the fear of staying the same outweighs the fear of change.
Your Core Values
Amidst the chaos of change, your core values act as your anchor. They should guide your decisions and actions in both your personal and professional life.
Action Steps
📌 Take time to clearly articulate your core values. What principles guide your choices?

📌 Define your personal brand by incorporating your values into it. I know “personal brand” can be a buzzword nowadays. But your Brand is a REAL and POWERFUL attribute when crafted and executed correctly.
Ask yourself?
❓Do you stand out in a crowded space or blend in unnoticed?
❓Can you define your unique leadership style and make it relevant to others?
STAY CONNECTED TO REAL PEOPLE
While AI and technology are advancing, human engagement and connection remain vital. They will become even more critical as we move forward into 2024 and beyond.
Action Step
📌 Continue cultivating relationships that inspire, challenge, and contribute to your growth as a leader.
📌 Develop your network of like-minded individuals, and remember that face-to-face interactions can enhance relationships significantly.
📌 Consider forming or joining a peer coaching circle where leaders can share experiences and insights.
